Mettams Pool is a beautiful natural pool area located in North Beach.
Water Conditions:
The coral formations make for a calm, cove-like area, perfect for snorkelling. The water is quite shallow, so it’s a good place for kids as well as beginning snorkelers, who may need to stand at any point in their swim.
Aquatic Life:
There is a range of aquatic life, including coral, shell-creatures such as abalone, a number of fish species (all harmless), octopus, and the occasional jellyfish (don't worry- very rare!).
Facilities:
Toilets, Change Rooms, Ramp access to the beach. The beach doesn’t provide much shade, so bringing sunscreen, a beach umbrella or shelter is advised!
Rating: 4.5 Stars
A beautiful place for snorkelling, but it didn't get the full 5 Stars. There can be a lot of people there- not just snorkelers, but swimmers- which can cause the occasional collision. Mainly you just have to keep an eye out for each other. There are also a lot of snorkelers, which can sometimes disturb fish. Also, as there are so many beautiful fish here, many people want to catch it on camera. A few times I've been snorkelling and have been floating, watching a school of amazing fish, when a GoPro and Selfie-Stick army has come and scared the fish! Please be respectful with your cameras. Overall, this is a lovely place, and if we all look out for and respect each other, it will be even better.
